General Things You Should Know About Harvard Model Congress

Harvard Model Congress is an educational government simulation program for secondary school students. Over the course of the conference, students gather to debate, share, learn, and compromise on pressing issues while taking the position of the most important leaders in the world. For over a decade, Harvard Model Congress Asia has attracted students from across the continent and beyond. As HMCA celebrate its 13th conference, it invites high school student to join Harvard Model Congress Asia 2017, which will be held in Hong Kong.

            Fortunately, this year is the first year HMCA offers a full and partial scholarship for outstanding delegates all over the world. I was very lucky and an honor to be one of 13 full scholarship recipients. After over 2 months selection process which was started by filling out the registration form, making an essay about certain topic, and last but not least creating a video about the most pressing issue in my country (Indonesia). The full scholarship covers flight, hotel, and also the conference fee.  I could not have done all these things without my parents, my teachers and my friends help. They are really taking an important role in my success.

 On behalf of Indonesia and Sampoerna Academy Boarding school student, i gathered with over 600 delegates from around the world discussing and solving many problems was a very sophisticated moment ever in my life. I was in South East Asia committee and representing Sri Lanka. This was my very first time in this conference and most of delegates in my committee had already joined the previous congress in Seoul.  I have got to learn many things from them and tried to cope up with new ambience either. One word i wanted to say on that time was “WOWWW”. From 9 am until 6 pm for 3 days we discussed like in the real world council to create and pass the resolution or bill that will be discussed on the next day on the full session. 

Another benefit of joining this conference is that you will have a Harvard college panel session which is a sharing session from Harvard University undergraduate students about Harvard University such as how is the learning environment, how to get in, what is the qualification, how is the college life there and many more and of course they opened for questions, so basically for those who really want to attend Harvard University in the future this is your golden chance to ask them directly.

 It was a really worth to join this conference. You do not only learn about the US congress but also you can see that there are so many people that are eager to learn more and more and they prepare well themselves for their future. Never satisfy with things that we already have but always think you have to be more and more, being out of your comfort zone, exceeding your current limit and never doubting yourself to do things that you never try first. If i could join once more next year, i would love to but yeah i am entering university this year so no more chance ;’(.
